Dr. Cassidy missed this important life lesson in med school: "Don't lie down with dogs!"

Ever since Cassidy voted in favor RFK, Jr Cassidy lost my respect and support.

He lost my respect long before RFK Jr. That vote just solidified my overwhelming opinion that he has no honor or self respect

That's the same line where Cassidy lost any kind of support from me, but I did hold out a redemption path for him for a while. This redemption path would have been Cassidy aggressively calling for RFK Jr.'s removal and whipping other GOP members of Congress to do the same after the expert and competent members of the CDC's vaccine advisory board (ACIP or Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) were replaced by charlatan vaccine deniers. Remember, Cassidy stated that RFK Jr.'s promise to keep the existing ACIP intact was his reason for allowing his confirmation to proceed to the full Senate for a vote and then voting for his confirmation. He utterly failed in following this redemption path, too. Cassidy's legacy will include his key role in destroying America's public health system, or at least setting it back to the scourge of polio.

I’ll vote for anyone chump is against.

I rarely agree Mann, but agree with this review.

Bob, you definitely tried to warn Senator Cassidy multiple times over the past year. Instead of Cassidy contacting you after you taking the initiative with your recent article about helping Cassidy find his courage, he should have talked to you when your first warnings came out before, during, or shortly after RFK Jr.'s Senate confirmation process in his committee. He may have had a shot at winning over the support of a sufficient number of independent voters and Democrats or at least been able to return to his medical practice with his honor intact and a legacy of defending public health at a critical time when it was under grave threat.

The GOP has become the Party of Chaos with Landry canceling the Congressional primary. Landry is in the tradition of Trumpian chaos.

Michael Lewis's avatar

Chaos? You would expect anything less from the man that teamed up with Paxton to file all of those lawsuits over the 2020 election for his Beloved Leader?

I'll be very curious to see how Cassidy reacts to being a lame duck starting in 9 days. Trump has razor-thin margins in the House and Senate and a lot of important votes coming up. He doesn't strike me as the revenge-seeking type, but he could make a lot of good trouble over the next eight months and he won't owe anything to Trump or his party.

Michael Lewis's avatar

He just doesn't have the fortitude to make "good trouble", he'll skulk around the halls as the "never was" that he's always been. Maybe he'll try Kennedy's fake accent and good ol'boy axioms on for awhile

I left the defunct state Democratic Party and switched my registration to No-Party so that I could throw a vote to Cassidy. I'm not a fan of his, but I don't want to send a MAGA operative to DC in his place. I doubt there will be enough of us doing that to save him. I have a lot of issues and disappointments with Cassidy, but he's *slightly* more likely to exercise independent judgment than the other two (who have absolutely zero capacity to do anything but follow Trump's orders). Those No-Party moderates and liberals who won't vote for Cassidy because of RFK are going to find Fleming a WHOLE lot worse than Cassidy. This is an election of the "evil of three lessers" (yes, that's intentional) -- the D primary is largely irrelevant.

I am guessing that the consequences to our health system of allowing Kennedy to take control will be a source of regret to Cassidy long past anything else . As a doctor, this is bound to weigh heavily on his conscience.
