Bill Cassidy is a tragic figure who had so much to offer and has done so much to ruin his integrity. His vote for RFK will haunt him forever!

I was seriously considering campaigning for Cassidy, working for his re-election. All that was dependent on his vote on RFK and others. He has dashed my hopes that there are principled Republicans who will put country over party and, more specifically, over their personal ambition. Shame doesn't cover it!

Cassidy not only violated his senatorial oath but his Hippocratic one as well. More people are going to die with Kennedy as HHS secretary.

Trump will make Cassidy grovel all the way to his reelection. Then Trump will support his opponent.

Cassidy has betrayed his long and meritorious service as a public health Doctor and especially his medical leadership after Hurricane Katrina. RFK isn’t merely a quack selling Geritol. Instead, his anti-VAX and conspiratorial flacking have harmed countless people who respected his name without knowing more. He’s a noted, drug user and dealer who now claims to be sober, having left many victims behind.

I agree with your assessment, Cassidy will lose his dignity and his election. I don’t know why anyone would want to be a senator and not do the right thing, particularly since the Republicans are about to devalue the entire Congress.

I am truly saddened. I had really believed he would put country and principles ahead of self-interest. It's not just a matter of letting people down, but the larger issue of the damage RFK Jr. might do in this position of power.

Thank you, Bob. You are a man of honor. This day is almost as depressing as Nov. 5th.

Yes, and the Musk/Trump regime has only begun to begin!

I spent some time on the let's Lynch Cassidy Facebook group after the impeachment vote and there's no way the hardcore would ever vote for him. And the Trumplicans are hardcore MAGA. I guess he decided drawing Democratic votes was a longer shot than beating his MAGA opponent. Have we really reached the point when members of that party have to literally fear for their lives to oppose Trump?

Very, very sad……

I left a message for Cassidy before that final bad decision, saying something similar, but in fewer eloquent words. Keep your ethics and the people you represent may find it in their hearts to vote for you to return to the Senate. If not, hang it up!

Cassidy said he got concessions and that he would be in a key position to influence policy. Yeah right! Trump only allows people to influence policy if they gave him enough money to get elected or sold their soul with un-dying loyalty. The needle cannot be threaded Dr. Cassidy; the good news is that we do need a few good doctors in Louisiana in 2026. Welcome back.

A Faustian bargain to be sure, but your remarks unfairly diminish Sheb Wooley, who had a distinguished acting career (High Noon, Hoosiers, Rawhide, et al) in addition to other musical endeavors.

Point taken on Sheb Wooley. I only meant to point out he had only one big hit record.

I feel the same way. I tried to communicate this almost exact language to Sen. Cassidy last week. I was hopeful, but it didn't do any good. I know we should be calling and writing our elected congresspeople, but I hardly know what to say any more. What I would say, I've already said to all of them before for one reason or another.

I feel your pain. I have a post coming tomorrow that addresses calling/writing members of Congress.

Headline: Medical doctor (who became a senator) confuses a hypocritical oath (or oaf in the case of RFK Jr.) with the Hippocratic Oath!

I am saddened and surprised: I really thought he would see what we see, his ultimate defeat in the next election, that could have partially been redeemed by sparing us Robert Kennedy. And now the funds for medical research are already being cut: frightening and so unnecessary.

That's the worst part. He does see what we see. He knows even better than we do the consequences, but he chose to ignore all that, I'm not even sure for what.
