Senator Cassidy voted for this abomination of the bill that will cut Medicaid benefits to many of his constituents in Louisiana starting in the next fiscal year. Senator Cassidy, a physician who practiced medicine before he was elected Senator has denied that Medicaid is being cut. His constituents should deny him reelection as Senator in Louisiana for not telling the truth about these impending Medicaid cuts and the Board of Medicine which licenses MD’s in Louisiana should rescind his medical license for voting for a bill that will do harm to his constituents in violation of his Hippocratic oath as a doctor to’ first do no harm.’

And most of the MAGAs don't understand, and those that do, don't care. I have been totally surprised at the great lack of compassion and any decency his supporters have towards the "least of these." They are as disgusting as Trump and Cassidy.

I have been told by two different church-going republicans over a space of time, that "if people don't have health insurance, they can just die." You already know how I responded.

Not surprised at all many feel that way. They claim to follow Jesus but in fact follow Ayn Rand or Social Darwinism.

Here's the answer to Cassidy we need to all get behind: “I represent Louisiana. I’ve got a lot of people on Medicaid. I’ve got a lot of people on SNAP. And they’re not lazy and shiftless; they work every day,” Fields said. “And when people say, ‘You always oppose things that the president puts forward.’ Well, let me just tell you, I don’t represent the president. I represent you.” [ U. S. Representative Cleo Fields - let's draft him to run against Cassidy]

Yeah, but for cutting healthcare to give “temporary” tax cuts to the wealthiest a new lease-on-life, residents get….

Oh wait, they get to be poorer.

Sounds fair.

To my so-called representatives, Scalise, Cassidy, and Kennedy.

They have made financial slaves of our children and grandchildren by enabling government to rig the system against them. Have you no shame?

If republicans had any shame, the US would have universal healthcare for all, like every other prosperous first world country on the planet.

The lousy part is, Scalise is safe. Still amazes me that he not only gets re-elected, he will win in a landslide, again.

Cassidy sold his soul on the Kennedy vote and he will still lose because everybody and their grandmother(except dr cassidy) knows Fatman will turn on him and endorse anybody except Cassidy. Fatman must exact his revenge over the impeachment vote.

Meanwhile, Randal Gaines is MIA. Did he fall into a bayou and drown or something. I'm not seeing anything from him. The Northshore Democrats are scrambling to get things out. Metairie Indivisible is sponsoring an Empty Seat Town Hall on Sept. 21st (please show up folks). But zilch, nada from the statewide organization.

The Curtis Medical Clinic in rural Nebraska has already announced its closure, caused at least in part by the expected cuts to Medicaid. Nursing homes will also feel the sting from those cuts, which will affect even residents who aren’t on Medicaid.

You can tell what individuals or societies value by what they spend their money on. Apparently this country values rich people.

I am very interested in the impact on nursing homes. This needs more research and reporting.

Thank you for this article, Bob! You rock! Failing to stop the nomination of RFK, Jr., a man who traffics in pseudo-science and conspiracy theories thereby endangering the public health of us all, is also a clear violation of the Hippocratic Oath as far as I'm concerned.

The only way I could include the photo in the story at this link was to paste the link itself below. The point is the photo of the weed-infested, chain link fenced, empty lot on north Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, where Earl K. Long Hospital stood. It was closed in 2013 by republican governor Bobby Jindal with the blessing of the Republicans in the state legislature. This photo stands as a monument to jindal and republicans in general. This is their legacy. Taking healthcare away from the neediest people is their longtime goal. This is nothing new.

And before someone comes here and says that jindal replaced the charity hospital system with contracted care in private hospitals, that was illusory at best. Most people were turned away from the contracted providers if they did not have Medicaid or some other form of insurance - which was why people were cared for by the Charity system. Of course, jindal refused to expand Medicaid to the working poor, so they were completely shut out. As a very republican doctor, who was a dear friend, and who provided free care to a legion of poor, uninsured people, told me about his patients who tried to get care from OLOL under the state contract: "THEY ARE SENDING MY PATIENTS HOME TO DIE."

DeSoto Parish is still rolling in $ from the Haynesville shale play. All the schools have astroturf fields, teachers are highly paid, so of course they’re not worried about closing. Cassidy should ask hospitals in Avoyelles, Beauregard, Evangeline.

It is getting more expensive to be poor. There are fewer medical treatment options available for those on Medicaid especially in Rural areas. Preventive care is less expensive than crisis or emergency care, yet making heath care more difficult to obtain makes maters worth. Bill Cassidy and Ralph Abraham are not operating in good faith nor living in the real world. We need an alternative to our current leaders before all of the cuts start to take full effect. Thanks Bob for this information. Let’s find some good candidates to run as the failure of the current administration continues to become apparent.

Who is going to replace Cassidy? I am discouraged that we will see an improvement, and it can always get worse, even when we don't think that is possible.
