Your concern is certainly not overstated. The danger presented by Trump and his cronies qualify for the term "clear and present danger." That the many elected officials from Louisiana do either not see that danger or do nothing about it should be astounding, but is not. We assume that these officials have a solid ethical grounding informed by their religious or humanistic training. It is difficult for me to square their not holding Trump accountable for his despicable behavior with their claims to be concerned about family values. Who in their right mind would tell their children or grandchildren that they should follow Mr. Trump's example for how to treat people. Our elected officials are transactional actors rather than principled leaders.
Trump is one of the most dangerous leaders I have ever seen. In some ways, he may be more dangerous than Putin. People have to not only come out and vote for Kamala, but they also must vote against every GOP candidate that doesn't vigorously denounce Trump and his bigotry.
No doubt in my mind that sometime early in the Bloated Yam's second term, some of his top flunkies will gather in a Beltway mansion and the leader of the conference will say, "We have a storage problem. We have millions of illegal immigrants in camps across America. These camps are costing us money. The nations these immigrants came from do not want them back or they return to America once they land.
"Consequently, we need a Final Solution to the Illegal Immigrant question."
They will simply go from deportation to extermination.
And the American people will applaud, like the Germans did. And so many others. Including the Americans, over the Trail of Tears.
Until, like the Germans, they are forced to walk through the liberated death camps and see the bodies for themselves.
At Buchenwald, some Germans tittered and hurried through. The Americans ordered them to go through the camp again. More slowly.
After seeing what had been done outside their city, the Mayor of Weimar and his wife committed suicide.
However, as our camps will not be "liberated," we'll never learn.
So do I, but nobody learns from history. Students are satisfied to get a D and remember the myths, like Betsy Ross, the cherry tree, and "The Lost Cause."
Excellent article. The new Reichstag is run by Johnson, JD Vance.
Scalise is just plain evil, Cassidy trying to retain his seat, Kennedy is just playing the room. When you have billionaires like Harlan Crow, who collects Hitler memorabilia, as one of the biggest political donors to candidates and judges guess what direction we are headed.
The hatred and fear of a few are running this country.
Detention of every immigrant would crash agriculture and some other industries. no produce no meat no dairy. the only way a trump administration could avoid food riots will be to charge every one of the immigrants with the crime of illegal entry to the United States or some other crime, imprison them in the camps, and then send them back into the field and the meat packing plants as slaves.
You are right to be very concerned about a second Trump term. A person who ripped infants and children from their parents at the Mexican boarder is cruel and amoral. Remember that the Nazis used their legal system to persecute the Jews. This inhuman treatment ultimately led to their extermination. The Nazis model: the segregation laws of the Jim Crow South. For details see Rachael Meadows' recent book, "Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism," 2023.
The Supreme Court has already elevated Trump as being above the law. Add to this that Stanley Milgram's classic experiment and the crimes committed by Americans at Abu Ghraib have proven there are more than enough Americans to staff and torture inmates in concentration camps.
Will Trump's supporters continue to follow him as his plans become extreme and evil?
"Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and U.S. Sens. Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy are not stupid and unaware of world history. " This is precisely the reason I can never support these people ever again.

Thanks Bob. If only people would listen. Trump is as dangerous and corrupt and evil as they come.
Thank you for "calling -out the La. folks!" How do they sleep at night?

Boy, am I familiar with those images.

I so hope you are wrong.
Me, too

That's why we keep having wars and genocides

Hi Professor Mann, unsure if you remember me from class in 2023. This was a great read. I’d love to get connected with you soon.
