Usually I don’t comment on a piece of writing by using profane language but your piece on legislation being proposed in the La State Legislature to facilitate more Legalized Bribery of La State Legislators and State Officials provoked me to the point of profanity which goes without saying.
Thank. you for drawing the connection between our governor and our president, our state government and our national government. Louisisna politics is caught up in the large web of Trumpism. It is pervasive and it is deadly for a just society.
One of my fears is that this new legislation will be used to convict, or destroy the reputation, of honest officials not alined with Landry and Trump. That will happen, because it is as easy to convict someone for offering a bribe as it is to ignore one.
I agree that Louisiana government is now caught up with Trumpism’s corruption. I am saddened at our country’s and state’s diminishing commitments to strong ethics in public service.
It's not just Trump's corruption. Jeff Landry is capable of more than enough corruption on his own. In Trump, he recognizes a kindred spirit with the power to provide cover. Robs Landry of any credibility as governor for the people.
Remember when everyone knew Edwin Edwards was crooked? It was an open secret that made Republicans fume and good government wonks pull their hair out. And, it was okay. Louisiana was raking in millions of oil dollars. Edwards doled out sweetheart contracts to friends and supporters. Thing was, they were making money, Edwards was making money, and the state still came out on top. Because Edwin knew something that the current bribe takers ignore: if things are running fine, nobody cares. But when your bribes get nothing for the average person, the average person cares. Landry and the LA legislature ignore the lesson, and people are going to retaliate.

Disgusting, though not surprising. Sadly, nothing really surprises me these days.

When Landry went to Mar-a-Largo and kissed the ring of the corrupt and convinced DJT, the people who voted for both knew what they were getting.
